Originally we made housecalls to keep our costs low and our prices competitive but when we moved into professional offices we didn't tell any of our clients where we had moved to. The reason why is that our time poor professional and business owner customers value the convenience of housecalls AND by coming to our customers we are able to provide a more personalised service and learn more about your needs including, occasionally, legal issues you didn't realise our professional services could assist you with.
We come to you and have an obligation fee initial consultation that generally takes about an hour. During this consultation we will learn about:
- your how your business (or family) works currently;
- the pressures and legal risks that we can assist with; and
- your plans for the future.
We then provide you with a set of fixed price options that let you make an informed decision about how we can help you to reduce your risks and put your legal affairs in order at a schedule you can afford and feel comfortable with.
We're often asked "Why don't we charge for our time like other lawyers?" There are two reasons, we think (and our clients seem to agree) that fixed prices are a better service and we think there is a conflict of interest between lawyers who bill for their time and their clients because our customers' interests are best served by a speedy resolution to their matter while a lawyer who charges by the hour is paid more the longer it goes on. In any event we feel more comfortable being paid for performance rather than effort and we're sure you will too.
• Why our Proactive and Preventative Approach matters
Most lawyers make a lot of money in court but our focus is a little different. We aim to make sure you never get to court for the following reasons:
- court is costly in time, money and energy
- no one ever wins everything when they go to court (except the lawyers - and who wants to pay for a lawyers picnic)
- we think you should be making the important decisions in your life not a grumpy geriatric dressed in an ugly wig and a dress.
Because our experience is that no one ever comes out of a court case happy with the result (whether they "win" or not), we spend the time with you to establish the most likely factors are to cause you legal difficulties in the future and help you to put in place structures and strategies to make it much less likely you'll have a bad day in court. We also have a stable of specialist barristers and law firms we can refer you to if you do end up having no choice but to go to court (we see our role in litigation being a little like a GP who has an excellent rolodex of specialists).
Our main marketing strategy is word of mouth referral based marketing and we do this at a number of networking groups where we meet a wide variety of business owners.

Because our typical customer is a time poor busy professional or business owner, we invite you to use us as your procurement service (this is a free additional service for our legal clients). We have built relationships with a wide variety of professionals and business owners (both through helping them with their legal matters and our extensive networks) and because we are not emotionally involved in your buying decisions and negotiate for a living we often can save you not just time but peace of mind and often quite a lot of money. Because we get to know your business really well (including who your best customers are - the ones that have you jumping for joy when they contact you) we can confidently refer to you. We've even had business owners who weren't using our services approach us for an obscure service after they saw our business card book while witnessing documents for their neighbour. While we prefer to refer to our customers (because it makes it easy to decide to deal with us if we're sending you more than enough work to pay for our fees) we have a fiduciary duty which means we treat our clients interests as the most important and will send them to the business that can best help them rather than the one we have the best relationship with.
